Please join students from CCA’s Architecture Division in conversation with Gregory Jackson, Cofounder of Repaired Nations and Equal Justice Works Fellow at the Sustainable Economies Law Center. We will ask Jackson about his work on collective decision-making and cooperative-ownership in East Oakland, to understand how urban economies can be reshaped to support community ownership and power-sharing. Students Sanyukta Bhagwat, Linhao Feng, Peter Jew, Maria Ramirez Perez, Ki Schmidt, and Chak Ying Wong from the Urban Imaginaries seminar, taught by assistant professor Janette Kim, will lead this conversation to gain insight into the mission, strategies and challenges of social justice activism in cities today. 

This conversation is the second in a series of Urban Imaginaries events which will also included an interview with Marquita Price of the East Oakland Collective and a roundtable discussion about a book created by the students, called Designing a Just City, that will serve as a toolkit for linking architectural design techniques to movement-led work.
