Members from the non-profit SOMOS Mayfair gave CCA students a tour of the Mayfair neighborhood in San Jose. Students in this seminar, called “Collective Power,” taught by UWA Director Janette Komoda Kim, will design a board game to facilitate cooperative living.

We heard how SOMOS builds community power in East San Jose through leadership development (including the intergenerational promotora system) and organizing around resident-led solutions (from education to health care, and from economic development to affordable housing).
